About Plan Institute

Who We Are

CanadaDisabilityBenefit.ca is run by Plan Institute, a national non-profit in Burnaby, BC. Our mission is to empower people with disabilities to lead a good life.

What We Do

Plan Institute provides educational materials, resources and individualized support to people with disabilities and their families. We work on community-based projects and partner with like-minded organizations to advocate for change and policy reform. We offer free supports and services to individuals, family members, and professionals across Canada.

We created CanadaDisabilityBenefit.ca as a go-to hub for comprehensive and up-to-date information and resources about the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB).

Why We Do It

Plan Institute wants an end disability poverty, now. Disability income, supports, and benefits should be a foundation to build upon, one that provides the base for all people to be able to lead a good life. We recognize the disproportionate level of poverty experienced by the disability community. There is an urgent need for government support that would ensure people with disabilities live a life free from poverty and have a secure financial future.

Plan Institute is proud to have been involved in the immense community mobilization and advocacy efforts around CDB since it was first announced in September 2020.

Our partners

Disability Alliance BC

Disability Alliance BC (DABC) provides support and information to people in BC on the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and other disability benefits and programs. DABC is an important partner in our work around the CDB, providing training on the DTC, co-developing and co-designing DTC information, outreach strategies, resource development, and best practices, and offering overall guidance and collaboration

Our funders

Employment and Social Development Canada

Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) has provided an initial six months of funding that allows us to expand our one-to-one support and outreach capacity. We also appreciate their support for several other projects over the years.

Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security

We are extremely grateful to have received three years of funding (2024-2027) from the Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security. This grant will help us provide more one-on-one support, resources, and outreach to help as many people as possible access the DTC and CDB.

RDSP.com

Plan Institute is also proud to operate RDSP.com. This website provides all the latest information, as well as free resources and support on the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP).
